July  29 - Chuck Jones  We fished out by the "dumping grounds' (by "E" bouy).  We fished in 18-25 fow ran bottom bouncers 40& 60 back.  We kept 5 nice walleye's.  Still learning to be comfortable with bottom bouncers etc.

July  29 - Chuck Jones  We fished in front of Fermi between 20 & 25 fow of water.  We caught 10 nice fish running bottom bouncers.  Color didn't seem to matter.  We ran out of crawlers switched to spoons & wiggle warts & couldn't buy a fish???

July  27 - Sue Zatek Bob Clark and I picked up a limit in a few hours out in front of Fermi in 21 FOW.  We were draging crawler harnesses off 2 oz. bottom bouncers at about 1.5 mph when the wind would let us go that speed.  Had a good day, nothing bigger than a 3 pounder but we only got a couple sheepshead so we didn't go through too many crawlers.

July 26 - Greg Warsow  Jigged the Amherstburg Channel with Mike Pasik.  32 - 25 fow.  12 Walleye, some sheepshead & a bunch of gobies (Have I told you how much I hate those things?).  Also caught two White Fish.

July 26 - Bob Clark  Friday, fished in front of Fermi, 11 a.m. rill 3 p.m. with Sue Zatek and picked up nice limit. All 18+".  Got s 6.5#, 26.5 inch brute on the last pass.  21 FOW ,crawler harnesses at 10-12' down, 1.5 to 1-6 GPS speed. Pearch color blades aand pink were working well.  Had some 3' rollers out there.  A great afternoon on Erie!

July 24 - Ken St. Denis  Captain Norm took 2 buddies 7.5 miles south by southwest out of Wheatley harbour....60 ft. of water....orange and silver spoons down 30 feet and 25 feet back.     9 real nice rainbows between 9 am and 1 pm.

July 24 - Greg Warsow  Went out with Mike Pasik in his boat & John Lewandowski in the evening.  Jigged the Amherstburg channel.  Caught 12 walleye & lots of Goby's (I hate those things).

July 22 - Chuck Jones  7/20 We fished out in front of Luna Pier, 12 - 16 FOW. Rebel crawfish 50' back and spoons 30' back.  Caught a few, marked very little so we pulled lines and ran to"E" buoy & fished in 18 FOW.   Warts at 60' back and spoons at 45'.  Caught our limit. Black and purple worked best for warts. Spoons -bloody nose and then a purple (don't remember name).

July 20 - Greg Warsow  Fished with Johnski & George Cini today at, where else,  Holiday Beach.  Marked fish on and off in 17 to 25 fow.  Wind SSW 10 to 20 mph.  Still a lot of weeds.  Same program as yesterday.  8 walleye, 1 catfish, and lots of Sheepshead.

July 19 - Greg Warsow  Fished Holiday Beach with Jon Lewandowski & Mike Pasik. Same 17 to 24 fow.  Wind SSE.  Inline 1 oz. with harnesses, green seemed to be the color today.  1.2 to 1.6 mph.  16 walleye and the biggest Sheepshead we had ever seen, 16 to 20 lbs. (no kidding).  This thing ran on us like a salmon.  Picture to be posted soon.  Very good day even with John losing 3 or 4 fish, ha.

July 19  - Mark Schaller  Went over to the Amherstburg channel this morning and picked up a 6 fish limit pulling wire.  Started north of the 68 buoy and caught nothing but smallies.  After I talked to Sparky he suggested I try  farther downstream.  I moved down about 400 yards in 26 fow and caught my fish in less than 45 minutes with one double and I lost one as well.  Fish came on Flyin' Tiger, Chartreuse Watermelon and Purple Watermelon.  Go here for a pic of the fish and spoons.

July 17 - Greg Warsow  Hit Holiday Beach for an evening of fishing with Bob Frank.  17 to 24 fow.  Landed 4 very nice walleyes.  Threw back 5 two year olds.  Landed a 9 lb catfish and huge Bobahhhhh fish, if you know what I mean. 1 oz. inlines with harnesses.  15, 20, 25 back.  No waves and a great sunset, good night.

July 17 - Ron Clewitt  Holiday Beach area still is holding some nice walleye. went there this morning 15 ft of water. 2 man limit 1 oz inline on crawler harnes's 30 back  good luck

July 16 - Chuck Jones We fished in front of Luna Pier 14-16 fow.  We ran Rebel Crawfish's 50 & 65 ft. back.  Both side caught fish.  Red was the best color. Ran big boards out far.  Caught 5 keepers A 4 & 1/2 A 3 LBS AND TWO IN THE 2LB SIZE THEN JUST A LEGAL ONE.  Lots of other fish, 6 & 1/2 sheep-head, small pike.
ONLY REAL TROUBLE IT WAS LIKE A BLAST FURNACE OUT THERE.   REMINDED ME OF THE "COKE OVENS" AT GOOD OLD ZUG!!

July 15 - Jerry Hinton  Greg Warsow, Bob Clark and I headed over to Holiday Beach this morning with virtually no wave action and millions of gnats. But  the fish were hitting and we boated 16 walleyes and missed a few more. Also, 2 nice perch, 2 catfish, sheeps and white perch. Inline 1 oz weights and harnesses, Pink being the hot color today. Anywhere from 20'-35' back off inline boards. Great day, great friends and a great fishery. What more can you ask for???

July 12 - John Sparkman  7-11/7-12 Limit in front of Humbug spoons riley special nice fish some up to 3 lbs. Who said there are no fish in the Trenton channel?

July 10 Bruce Snyder  Thursday - Fished various spots around Celeron and Gross Ile using bottom bouncers and spinner harnesses and ended up with a 2 man limit. #3 blades in various colors of chartreuse accounted for the majority of fish, and a copper blade took "bubba" (a 24 inch beauty). We also caught some nice smallmouth along with plenty of rock bass. I hope some of the fishermen that were out there that day read this post and learn that you should not motor back upstream at full speed through the water you just fished; in this shallower water, these fishermen turned the bite off in just a half hour.

July 9 Paul Doute  Went outfor a evening (5:30pm to 9:30pm) of fun and waves at Holiday Beach with fellow DWF member Brian Woodward. Brought home 11 nice fish, 1 released, and 4 lost at the boat. Anyway, it was an excellent evening on the water with great company. Strong west wind 15 to 20mph, waves averaged 2 to 3 ft. water temp 75.3. Used inline weighs 1oz with harnesses; line out anywhere from 12 to 23ft back, all caught fish with the best being 15 back. Color didn't seem to matter. Lots of white bass. Speed was erratic at best. Wind aided drifting with the kicker in reverse most of the evening. Tried our best to keep trolling speed between 1.3mph to 1.6mph. Most of our fish came along contour lines adjacent to each other - one was 18ft and the other 20ft.

July 9 - John Sparkman  Tues Canada,limit (6)most on spoons G S C and early on #9 clown.Coast guard

July 6 - Greg Warsow  Fished Holiday Beach Sunday with John Lewandowski & Jerry Hinton.  Water was flat & we used in-line boards.  Sat down in 17 fow with a SE troll to 24 fow and proceeded to bring them in.  Nice fish, big slabs.  35' back, 1.3 - 1.5 mph.  1 oz. & 1.5 oz. in-line weight, color of night harness did not seem to matter but there was a lot of red, pink & gold.  18 fish by 11:00 am.  Same program on Friday & Saturday with 12 fish each day.  About time we got some great weather and quality time on the water with great friends.

July  7th - Rich Spackey Fished near State line between Stoney Pt & Fermi 26-27fow with my dad (Rich Sr.).  2 fish for 5 hours w/4 lines (plus 3, 8-10 inchers we threw back). Fished w/ boards & spoons 80-90, tried all depths & speeds, but nothing seemed to wakem up?  Caught fish on Bloody nose, confusion and blueberry muffin.  Saw DNR guy taking survey at Sterling ramp.   He said 1-2 fish or no fish was the norm for the last few days, at least at the Sterling ramp.  He said he saw 2 limits come through Sterling all day on Sunday and both were caught up near the banana dike, by Pt. Mouillee???

July  7th - Sue Zatek Bob Clark and I went out Sat & Sun and picked up limits of nice fish right out in front of Swan Creek in 20 FOW dragging bottom bouncers. We were running them a few feet off the bottom and it seemed to do the trick.  Threw back half a dozen 15-16 inchers to save for next summer.  It was a great weekend to be out there!

July  7th - Bill Mezuk  Pat Waite took my brother Dave and I out to Lake Erie, for the day. It was a little slow with five walleye being caught. Took several sheepshead and a couple striped bass. Walleye were taken in front of Fermi on BB's with purple and chartruese harnesses in 20 FOW.

July 5  - Tom Lulko  Caught 3 'eyes, drifting BB, all along the Wyandotte Golf course Saturday morning. 17 - 18 inches, good eaters. oh ya, lots of rock bass & 1 big sheephead, lots of fun.

July 5  - Mark Schaller  My Dad and I got the opportunity to go fishing with Jerry Hinton and his 1st mate Mike "Big Fish" Pasik today out by Holiday Beach.  We ended up with 15 walleyes and lost about 6, some of them right at the boat.  We were fishing crawler harnesses with 1 ounce inline weights about 30 to 40 feet back in 20 to 26 feet of water.  Fish came on all kinds of different color patterns ranging from Pick Panties to Root Beer.  Great day on the water.

July 2 - John Sparkman- AM limit on GSC #7 blue -silver Worked HARD for em. Very few weeds

July 2  - Mark Schaller Went out handlining last night with Mark Bye in his boat.  We ended up going 8 for 10 with most of the fish coming about 150 yards SE of the Stacks.  Most of the fish were caught on spoons in a variety of colors....Lucky's GSC, Black with multi color reflective tape, Clown, Perch.

July 2 - Chuck Jones We went out of Luna Pier yesterday afternoon.  We fished by Sputnick from 5 to 8 pm, 60 & 80' back. We caught only 6 fish but all nice fish (5 lbs cleaned), nut only 6???!!!! Bloody Nose and Confusion were the best.  Talked to a charter and they were there earlier and did a lot better.  Just a little flustered, thought volume of fish should be larger???!!!

July 1 -Brian Woodard  Fished west sister this morning, (7 to 1) 13 boated(2 dinks )and lost 4 at the boat-31 ft of water spoons and minis 55 to 100 back anything with copper and purple produced nice fish 2.5-5lbs

July 1 - Paul Doute  Handlined the Trenton Channel in the evening(6-9)from the southern end of Humbug Island to the stacks. 1 man limit pulling spoons - GSC was the best. Most of the fish came toward the middle of the channel in 15 to 19ft of water. TONS of smallies -

June 30 - Jerry Hinton and Mike Pasik made a last minute decision this afternoon to go fishing to the north shore. Wind was blowing 14-20 out of the WNW. We left Gibraltar at 4:30 and was back from Holiday Beach at 8:15 with the heaviest box of 12 Walleyes I have ever caught!!!! 5 were over 27" incl a 29". Most of the others were in the 21-24" range. Incl a jumbo perch. 1oz in-line sinkers with 5' harnesses off my Off-Shore inline boards. Most of the time the boards were acting like bobbers with these big, aggressive fish. This is the kind of fishing I would expect out at Pelee Island but we were in front of Holiday beach in 22-25 fow. Speed was 1.1 - 1.4. Lots of white perch but no sheeps??? Water was clear but some weed pods to avoid. What an afternoon.

June 29 - John Sparkman  Sat AM 28th Went w/ Mark Schaller Canadian side we got 8 before rain storm, spoons GSC and Riley special

June 27 - Mark Schaller  Went out into the channel last night with my friend Dean after the storm passed.  Went 5 for 7 on Flying Tiger and Rainbow Trout Spoons.  Fished between the Stacks and the Catamaran.  Started about 7:30 and quit around 10:00 pm.

June 25 - Chuck Jones We fished in front of Lunia Pier harbor club in 12- 14 feet water.  Ran spoons 30 feet back worked the best.  Kept 5 nice fish, caught lots of other small eyes, silver bass and a couple of rock bass (?)  Tried warts & they just got the dust washed off.
Tried different lengths behind the boat but 30 was the best

June 25 - Mark Schaller Went out last night and ran spoons between the stacks and the catamaran in the channel.  Went 3 for 5, fish came on Lucky's GSC and Rainbow Trout.  Switched to Rap's after dark but couldn't keep the weeds off the lures or the bugs off of me.  Forgot how miserable being out in a mayfly hatch can be.  I gave up around 10:00 pm.  Also caught a 18 or 19 inch Smallie.

June 24th - Mike Barkley  Fished with Bob Clark and Sue Zatek in 23 FOW out from Fermi  4 rods with bouncers 2 at 23" the others 34' and 38'  Color didn't seem to matter. Picked up 15 between 11 and 2.  So much fun we played catch and release until out of crawlers

June 24th - Bill Mezuk Tuesday-Fished in front of Fermi with Pat Waite and his friend, Harry. Pulled bouncers and crawlers in 19.5 FOW on chartruese and purple spinners. Punched a 3-man ticket. Things heated up after we kicked the speed up from 1.5 to 1.8mph. Beautiful day on Erie.

June 23th - Ben Dascal  Fished Trenton Channel on 6-20-08, 6pm-9pm "HANDLINING" Caught 4 Walleye and 1 jumbo Perch, also had hard time keeping Small mouth bass, Rock bass and Silver bass off my Silver and blue #7 Rapala. I also fished Trenton Channel on 6-22-08, 8am-11am "HANDLINING" and caught 3 Walleye.  Note: Found them in "16 fow" trolling at 1 to 1.5mph Watch out for the Weeds/grass, all over Good Luck ‹(*_*)› ‹(•¿•)›

June 20th - Don Chambers  I caught a 25" Walleye in Lake Erie near Point Mouillee in 16 feet of water.  I was drifting using a Bottom Bouncer with a crawler harness (tiger pattern) & worm. I only caught the one Walleye.  We also used minnows (perch rigs) and caught Silver Bass & two perch.  Also caught ,but not kept, four Sheep Head & one Goby.

June 20 - Stephen Meloche 1 Mile north of West sister island. Went out with Little Dandy (Mike) and Big Bill on the Cantgetenough III.  Due to the traffic tie - up on i-75 we didn't get the first line out until 6:05 and Mike had a fish hit it in his hand as he was putting it in the clip! We caught 9 in an hour and 20 minutes. 2 ft. chop and overcast sky. Then suddenly the lake got flat and the sky went clear blue. The fishing slowed but we kept plucking them. We finished with 17, Just one shy of the 3 man Ohio limit in a little less than 4 hours. We stayed about 40 minutes past dark and got a couple after dark. Then the mayflies hit! Boy what a mess! 2nd worst I've ever seen! No wonder the fishing slowed! Same program - 70 ft. on the port boards and 80 on the starboard. The moonshine glow spoons worked well again after 9:30 taking 3 - 4 walleye. The hot spoons were: Kevorkian circus freak, Green slick, Green Huckleberry, Moldy Muffin, Moonshine anything after 9:30. Lost 1 1/2 hours due to traffic jam.
The mayflies got on the dipsys so thick it affected the aerodynamics or in this case, the hydrodynamics. Large baseball sized globs kept the discs from running right & Diving properly. Had to clean regularly.

June 21 - Jerry Hinton and Mike Pasik fished Holiday Beach again today and got another 2-man limit pulling harnesses with BB's and in-line 1 oz weights off in-line boards. Only took 2 1/2 hours today. We were about 1 1/2 mile east of the beach in 25-27fow trolling at 1.1 to 1.6 mph off GPS! Clear blue water.

June 20 - Jerry Hinton and Tom Taylor fished off Holiday Beach on the north shore of Lake Erie today and got our 2-man limit. Took about 5 hours but it was so nice today, we would have stayed out anyway. Best technique was using in-line boards with harnesses and in-line 1 oz sinkers 55' back. We also caught fish with #20 jets and spoons 125' back as well as Reef-Runners Deep Little Rippers (Bare Naked) 100' back. We also caught silvers, white perch, sheeps and a catfish. Almost constant action. What a gorgeous day with NO WIND!!!!!!

June 18 - Mark Schaller Went out last night with DWF member Mark Bye and went 5 for 7 down river. Started in front of the Harrison Ramp and fished up to McClouth Steel. Caught the fish on Orange/Gold, Clown, Purple/Silver Thunderstick, and a custom Rap (DT-158). Silver Bass are still around but not in the same numbers from a week ago. Wind died down after dark and it was absolutely perfect out.

June 16 - Mike Barkley  Fished with Greg Warsow, Bob Frank & John Lewandowski and spent a long hard day to get 7 walleye and a boatload of sheepshead!  Fermi to Estral Beach from 15 to 26 FOW  Caught most in 24'.  All on bouncers about 60' back  wide assortment of colors.

June 15 - Stephen Meloche Went to N. of West sister Island and got a 3 man Ohio limit of 18 walleyes in a little over 3 hours. Dipsys and spoons 90 ft. back 30 fow. Flat lake, fished from 1:30 - near 5:00 pm. Caught twice as many sheep! Never caught that many sheep in a season as much as we did in one day! Big ones too. The walleye were all 3-5 lbs. Missed about 5 more

June 11 -  Rich Spackey At Ohio/Mich line 26-27 fow approx 1/2 way between Fermi/Stoney Pt.  Trolling 2.8mph boards/spoons. First pass at 8:30/9am picked up 4 fish (6 lines) at 30 and 40.  5 more passes w/no fish.  Let out line and started hitting them at 70-80 at 11am on (confusion, bloody nose, kevorkian) done at 12:30, 8 fish for 3 guys, all were really nice 22-23.5 (3.25Lbs)

June 11 - Brian Woodard Fished wed am in 26-27ft of water just northwest of west sister 2 guys around 20 eyes from 2.5 to 5lbs.spoons and minis anywhere from 60 to 70 ft back. they hit any color we threw in the water from wonderbread to confusion-copper backs to chartreuse backs it did not matter! only 1 silver and 3 sheeps-2 9 inch throwbacks! lines hit the water around nine home by 1

June 9 - Greg Warsow - Sunday, Jerry Hinton, John Lewandowski, Bob Frank & I fished the Gibraltar Rotary Tournament.  We were able to catch a four man limit but big fish were hard to come by as we were in the smae area as the day before but with 3 to 5 footers pushing us along.  We ran the same program as the day before also.  Lots of fish in that area.  Good time had by all I hope, except for John, we all tried to abuse him as much as possible (LOL).  Kidding aside we had a blast.  Great Tournament also.  Fish fry was Great!

June 9 - Greg Warsow   Saturday, John Lewandowski & I fished east of Fermi in 19 fow using inline 1 oz. with crawler harnesses.  Small blades and orange crush & reds seem to do the best.  1.5 - 1.9 mph 30' back.  2 man limit.  One 5+ lber.

June 3 - Mike Barkley Fished with Bob Clark and Sue Zatek on Monday.  Fished from Fermi along Estral beach and caught 7, including a 7 1/2 pounder.  All in about 15' on harness/bouncers  Some form of charteuse caught all of them.  Plenty of white bass, some white perch and an  1+ pound  sheepshead!  Good day with good people!!

June 2 - Greg Warsow - Fished south of the Banana Dike again.  16 fow, same program as day before, 1 oz. in-lines with harness 40 back.  Took home 11 walleye.  There were some really BIG Bah-Fish and occasional silver bass & white perch.  Biggest walleye 6 lbs. 27".  Lost a lot of fish by short bites & fighting waves.  Fished with Dennis Powers, Carlos,& Larry.  It was their first time big board trolling & they did a great job.

June 1 - Greg Warsow - Fished Banana Dike.  Rock N Rollin for sure.  We were able to pull in 9 walleye on 1 oz. in-lines with harnesses.

June 1 - Stephen Meloche (radio handle: cantgetenough)  Fished from 1:30 - 4:00. We caught 7 eyes in 25 ft. of water due east of Stoney point. Dipsys and spoons 70 ft back. Hot spoons were Mi-Hi 3 fish, Lady Bug 3 fish, Kevorkian circus freak 1 fish. A couple of the crew were a little green. We started in 2 - 3 footers and they hung on for a little while but just had to go! The lake did calm down nicely and Dramamine helped but they needed relief. No chum. Missed an eighth eye at the boat!
Keep those rod tips up! Too bad we couldn't stay, they were biting during the afternoon. Usually that's the slow period.

May 31- Tom Lulko - Did a charter with Capt Steve Martin, MI-HI Charters, out of Lunar Pier, Friday afternoon. 5 man limit, most fish in Ohio waters. All spoons with mini dipsys, 84 ft back. Biggest 'eye, 7 lbs. A few silvers & 1 Sheepshead close to 10 lbs. It's all about getting together & having fun.

May 31 - Stephen Meloche (radio handle: cantgetenough)    5-29-08 Went 16 for 20 walleye in four hours on dipsys and spoons 40 ft. back. We trolled 1 mile due east of Stony point in 22ft. to Fermi buoys about 1/2 mile out in 18 ft. The fished ranged from 18 in. up to 28 in. The hot spoons were: Greenslick 3 fish, Ladybug 3, Monkeypuke 3, Mi-hi 3, moonshine yellowtail 3, Mixed veggies 1. Only 20 silverbass. 9lb. sheep. winds ESE 15+ mph. Waves 3 - 3 1/2 ft. We trolled downwind toward Fermi. Started about 5:30 and finished 9:45 p.m.

May 27 - Stephen Meloche  May 24, 2008 Fished in 14 ft of water in front of Toledo Beach Marina near the dumping grounds. 5 man limit in a little over six hours from 8 a.m. until near 2:30 p.m. pulling dipsys and spoons 40 ft back at 2 - 2.2 mph. All 25 eyes came on streaks with the ladybug, greenslick, and Mi-Hi spoons getting the bulk of the fish. Wasn't sure if lake reports are OK on this site but saw others.

May 26 - Mike Rosewicz  Fished with Mark R. and friend down south at Bolle's pulling spoons, gold was best, the key was 75 off dipey's double's at times, waves had light eye chop. 15 fish- gas does not deter fisherman, at least not there- 200-300 boats out for the holiday.

May 26 - Ron & Chris Merbler May 23. Fished the dumping grounds just outside Bolles Harbor on Friday morning.  We kept 10 fish (most 3-4 lbs) and tossed back 4 more.  Best program was 2oz bottom bouncers with perch/gold and pearl/purple Walleye Kid custom harnesses in 16-17 FOW.  Speed was 1.1-1.5 with most of the fish coming at the higher end of the range with the bouncers running a little off the bottom.  The best area was the far northwest corner of the dumping grounds (on the corner of the dump and off it to the north)  Lots of sheep, but not too many silver bass.  We did move out to the Ohio line later in the day but didn’t catch anything in the deeper water (20+ FOW).

May 25 - Mike Barkley Fished with Greg W, Bob C., Burt P. and John L. today.  We fished from Fermi to South end of Banana Dike, 8 to 12 F.O.W.  Crawlers on bottom bouncers on one side, crawlers/inline wgts on the other.  Didn't seem to make any difference.  We picked up 18 fairly quick.  Color didn't seem to matter.  Great Day with Good Friends!!

May 25 - Ben Dascal Went out from Lake Erie Metro Park at 6:30am on 5-25-08 and headed southeast 8 miles to water depth 16-22 feet and caught 5 big walleyes in 2 1/2 hours on worm harness with real worms. Also, went out on 5-24-08 at 11am and caught one big walleye handlining west side of Calf island using number 9 Rapala orange and green. ‹(*_*)›  ‹(•¿•)›

May 24 - Ken St Denis  Friday, out at 7:30a.m. tull 11:a.m. in front  of Fighting Island and east down to the Ambassador bridge.  The odd walleye was being taken but most boats were being hammered by the white bass....Very little chance for walleye to hit as bass were taking all bait...MINNOWS...WORMS...PLASTICS etc.

May 24 - Tom Lulko Went out Saturday morning, pulling wire, over a 2 man limit - silver bass. Got 2 walleyes in front of Portafino's. Non stop action. Both 'eyes on #9 clown, bottom lead. Had about a dozen double headers with the silvers.

May 24 - Mark Schaller Went out last night north of the Grosse Isle free bridge by the #13 bouy and picked up 3 walleyes.  Got all of them on a red/white Stubbie.  Few other boats pulling wire and we were all covering a lot of water trying to find the fish.  It was a Sllllllooooooowwwwwwww night!  Oh yea.....one other thing, the Silvers are still there.

May 19 - Chris & Ron Merbler  Fished three hours Sunday evening and ended up with three fish.  It's a miracle three walleyes were able to get to our bait before the white perch and silver bass got to it.  One came from Great Lakes in 38 FOW and two from the south end of the golf course in 30 FOW.  All came on gold and perch harness downstream at about 2.0 MPH.  Nobody on the river this evening - less than 10 trailers at Elizabeth when we pulled in.   Coast Guard was bored with nobody on the river so they took up 20 minutes of our evening checking everything out.

May 18 - Don McIntosh  Went out this weekend in the Trenton channel.  Drifted downriver from the pay bridge about 500 yard drifts across the channel.  3 guys in the boat pulling crawler harnesses went through 9 dozen worms in about 3 1/2 hours.  Pulled 5 good size walleye, about 60 silver bass and a few smallmouth just to keep us guessing sometimes.  Black or gold seemed to take the most fish.

May 18 - Bruce Snyder  Friday the 16th AM & Afternoon report.  Jigged fished out of Ecorse, as every trip it was tough. This was the 1st limit I have taken this spring. On the water at 6:30am and fished all day. Took 1 from the BASF wall, 3 off the Rouge River, and 1 off the north end Great Lakes Steel. There was no pattern to jig color, body, or depth. I fished mainly 5/8 oz. jigs, and switched to 3/4 oz in the 40ft. water. The Wyandotte brown worm accounted for 3 fish, and the other 2 came on different Fin-S colors. And the silvers hit anything you threw out and made it an active day.

May 16 - Ron Merbler  Fished the river Friday evening for about 3 hours.  Managed just two walleye - one on the east side of Celeron across from the yacht club and one on the west side near the entrance to Erie Metro Park.   We fished bouncers downstream in about 15-20 FOW.

May 14 - Brian Woodward  Braved the weather this morning and caught one eye at golf course and one at north end of Fighting Island -I can handle the rain, it's the silvers that sent me home (could not keep them off)

May 14 - Rick MalechukFriend came over from Muskegon , 7p-9p, 1 on bass assassin chart/pepper shad.
Went back out 10p-1a got 8, handlining, 2 on org. Rapala #11, 2 on perch night stalker , 4  on red head white body night stalker . Pier 50O to Mud Island, 20-30ft. Went out at 8a, only one , by mill . Pumpkinseed/ aqua glow worm

May 14 - Mark Schaller  Went out last night with our esteemed President Dan B. We started at the BASF wall jigging and caught a bunch of Silver Bass. From there we went over to Fighting Island and picked up one walleye and a bunch of White Perch. Around 9 I said enough of this screwing around, time to get serious so we switched over to handlining over in the west Mud Island channel. We caught more Silver Bass and 3 walleyes in about 45 minutes. We quit around 10:00 pm (That getting up in the morning for work thing is a pain).

Dan caught his on a #9 Clown. That's right, Dan the devoted bass fisherman caught a walleye handlining. At first he thought it was another Silver bass. Next thing I know I hear an "Oh Crap" and a walleye is hitting the deck. He sure is a jumpy little guy, every time he hooked a fish I thought he was going to jerk the whole rig right out of the water. Must be that bass fishing hook set mentality.

Mine came on #11 Orange/Gold Rapala.

May 14 - Ron Merbler  Fished the Detroit River Friday afternoon and Saturday morning trolling bottom bouncers and crawler harnesses down stream.  Ended up with 10 fish both Friday and Saturday.  Bouncers were 3oz and harnesses were Walleye Kid Custom Harnesses with 36” lead, gold blade (#5), and perch beads.  Speed was 1.9-2.4 MPH on GPS.    We fished around a pack of jiggers and caught fish consistently while they hit only a few fish.  Most of the fish came from Great Lakes Steel from the north end of the mill to the flagpole. Best area was in front of the pile of big rocks on shore near the north corner of their property in 35-38 FOW.

May 13 - John Sparkman Mon night limit 9.30-11.00 had hard time keeping off silver bass after dark so I switched to # 13 clown that worked.

May 12 -Vic Adams  Breast Bay 10am to 2:30 pm 12 fish, two over 5 lbs 4 on bottom bouncers 8 on spoons. All bigger size fish came on the spoons. 21ft water  2.0,2.2mph,new member this year saving this batch for the fish fry in June. See ya all there

May 12 - Michael Collins  Went out Saturday morning with my good friend Dave See at 7am from Ecorse. We caught 4 on the north end of Fighting Island early. The action was slow so we went north of the bridge and caught 1 in 50' of water. We decided to try the Canadian side down from the bridge by the sand piles and caught 7 more fish in about 2 hours. We were using white jigs with Alewife Fin-S and stingers. These fish were caught in 33' to 37' of water and they turned on late in the morning. First time this year we got our limits of fish and it's about time.

May 12 - Dan Porter  Fished the 23ft cut between Grosse Ile yacht club and Celeron between 2-5pm Friday afternoon and couldn't pick up even one. Marked a lot of bottom hugging fish. Tried green, chartreuse, orange, and black jigs tipped with Wyandotte worms, 4" Finn-S minnows, and various color twisters. Weather was cloudy, water was choppy, and conditions seemed perfect.  Had to be walleye in that cut because I was catching a ton of silvers each time I rolled out of that hole.

May 10 - Mike Wladysiak My buddy & I launched out of the Ecorse launch this morning & fished in front of US Steel from 7:00AM until 12:30. I had my limit at 8:30, while my buddy struggled. He was missing/losing a lot of fish. I thought he was doing something wrong but once I had lost my last 1/2oz green jig & only had 3/4oz jigs to use I started missing fish as well. I think they were quick to spit the heavier jigs. We caught at least 20 smallmouth & a dozen white bass & a rock bass. It was nice to see the smallmouth spitting up a lot of gobies.

I caught all of my fish on either a 1/2oz or 3/4oz green jig with a smelt Fin-S. The 1/2oz green jig & smelt Fin-S has been the hot bait for me the last 4 times out. My buddy used various colors & baits. The walleyes caught in the 25 to 40 fow range & most smallies came in 35 to 40 fow & the white bass in less than 35 fow.

May 10 - Greg Warsow - John Lewandowski, Bob Frank and I fished from 8 am to 4 pm.  Caught a couple North of the bridge,  Went to wiskey plant & picked up one but very muddy.  A couple more near RenCen. Two more near Army Corp of Eng. And finally ended up with 10 eyes total finishing up at North of Fighting Island.  Color jig did not really matter but most fish were caught with real meat or tip with real meat.  What a GREAT day on the water.

May 9 - Greg Warsow   John Lewandowski & I landed 4 walleyes in the late afternoon jigging.  Red jig w/wyanworm.  Two near Mud Island and two near Fighting Island.

May 9 - Mike Barkley Went with Jerry Hinton and Bob Clark Wed.  on the lower river for a few hours.  Picked up 4 pretty nice ones but really had to look for them.  Picked them up by the Canadian Coast Guard station and Celeron.  Color didn't seem to matter. Nor did bait.  Using crawlers and Wyandotte worms.  Fishing was really slow but time on the water with a couple friends was GREAT!

May 3 - Jerry Hinton, Mike Pasik and Tom Taylor fished the Anglers Marine River tournament on Saturday out of Elizabeth Park. Weather was changing all day from clouds to ran to wind to sunshine. Fished on the east side of Grosse isle and took 10 fish. Most of the boats seemed to head upstream towards Wyandotte. Unfortunately we placed 10 out of 30 boats and lost 1st place by less than 2 lbs. Nobody scored a real big fish. 6 lbs won! Jigged with minnows, crawlers and fin-s plastics. Thanks to Anglers Marine for a professionally run tourney. And thanks to the Stream Team kids for showing support. DWF was well represented today. Look forward to a bigger tourney next year!!!

May 1 - Mike Wladysiak My buddy & I launched out of Ecorse after work on Wednesday (4/30) & fished out in front of US Steel from 5:30 to 8:30. We boated 11 walleye & 1 white bass. 6 of the walleye were females that were spewing eggs, all the females were released. All the walleye were between 17.5" to 19.5". The water was really clear & most fish were caught on the stinger hook. Most fish were caught on a 1/2 oz green jig with a smelt Fin-S. The rest were caught on a 3/4 oz green jig with a fluke in baby bass. Most females were caught in 20 to 27 fow & the males in 30 to 40 fow.

I also hooked into a big salmon (might have been a steelhead) (23 fow) that I lost 3 feet from the net. It was a great fight though.

April 29 - Rick Malechuk  April 27 9-1lam , started across from Ft. Wayne down to salt mines , 30-38ft.

April 28 - Todd Alexander  Fished out of Ecorse boat ramp in the evening.  Jigging produced one snagged fish that was released to fight later.  Switched to handlines and pulled 4 fish and lost 2 others by 10pm.  2 on firetiger rap, one on purpledescent, and 4th on custom pencil plug (blue head white body with black scales).  Looks like someone else's report got merged with mine for April 24.

April 27 - Mark Schaller Went down to the Trenton Channel this evening to do some handlining. Picked up 3 between 8:30 and 9:00 pm. Had an equipment malfunction shortly after the third fish so I called it quits. Caught one fish on each lead, #7 Blue & Silver, #9 Clown and #11 Orange & Gold Rapala's. Also caught 9 silver bass and one 10 inch Muskie.

April 27 - Mike Wladysiak  My buddy & I launched out of Ecorse & fished US Steel down to Mud Island. We fished from 7:00AM until 11:00AM. We would have fished longer but I had a family function to go to.
In-between the ton of smallies & white bass we managed to catch 5 walleyes, 17.5” to 23.5” up to 4Lbs, all males. We started catching them in 20 to 25 fow until the boats started getting thick so we moved deeper while everyone else stayed shallower. We caught most fish in 32 to 40 fow. Most were caught on a 5/8oz wonder bread jig with a smelt Fin-S. The rest were on ½ to ¾ oz green jigs with flukes & finesse worms.

April 26 - Larry Tufts My fishing partner Kurt Schroeder, myself, and a friend went out last night from 10:00 pm until 1:00 am. Picked up a three man limit in no time. 2 fish 5+ lbs. Consistent action on fire tiger Rapala's in 5 to 10 ft of water. Tight lines.

April 23 - Charles Britton  Took a trip to Bolles harbor, fished with 7 other boats to the right of launch 2 miles, 8 to 10 feet deep, water was muddy, I have seen worse 5 to 10 mile wind, black jig head, emerald shiner, caught 1 sheep head, the big story is I drifted a long side another guy followed his advice, used same set up, he caught 20 that I saw, 2 1/2 hours later, I quit, (his jigging lines were back  45%) bye for now,

April 21 - Todd Alexander  Fished the reef off Turtle Island on Saturday (4/19).  Punched 3 man Ohio ticket, then trolled in MI waters for 1 1/2 hrs with no luck.  Jigged the Dumping grounds, and picked up another keeper.  Moved into LaPlasance Bay and Jigged up another fish and a big smallmouth.  Buddy in another boat stayed in OH and caught and released over 100 fish.  White blade bait was hot for some, my best bait was green jig, black twister tail tipped with Gulp smelt minnow.

Three of us went out around 10:45am.  Fished the Trenton Channel above Calf Island.  Was really windy; most fishermen stayed in the shallows.  We stayed in the middle, fought the wind and came out with 15 walleye!  Off the water around 5:00.  All fish 2 to 3 lbs.   Used 3/4 ounce jig and a minnow from Bottomline Bait & Tackle.

April 16 - Mark Schaller  Went out handlining tonight with John Lewandowski down in the channel.  We picked up 6 fish and probably lost just as many.  All fish came on either Chartreuse or Orange Rapala's, size #9.  Water is getting clearer.

April 14 - Mark Schaller  Well, after managing to lose two fish and then wrapping my shank up in my prop I caught 3 nice males all around 20 inches long.  Caught every one on a #7 Orange/Gold Rapala out in the Trenton Channel.  Water was dirty and a tepid 47 degrees.  Only fished for about an hour and a half and went in at 8:30 pm.  Finally, fish in the freezer

Dan Parker I'm trying to respond to your e-mail, but it keeps getting rejected by Yahoo saying no such account.  Please e-mail me mbarkley@wowway.com

http://www.michigan-sportsman.com/forum/showthread.php?t=228329

Mar 19 - Charles Britton  For those to faraway to check on the Detroit river ice , go to DWF home page.  In the right hand column box click on Dossin Museum River Cam and you will see the ice flowing south.  (live as it happens) good luck!    Click HERE live river web cam

Mar 18 - Eric Bishop Thanks to Charles Britton. Some of us Detroit River hounds wait all winter just to get that all clear on the ice floats so we can come down and get in the stink of the underside of our boats. Some of us live 235 miles away, and don't care if we limit out we just love being on the Detroit River, and it all hinges on the ice flows, if they're gone we are there, if there still there, we are still gone. Keep us posted we have cabin fever and are going nuts

Mar 16 - Charles Britton People were catching perch at the cross dike using small boats to get there, tried to go Sunday 3-16-08 lots of floating ice, looks like that's over, good luck

Mar 16 - Tony Hall I went out of Erie Metro Park this afternoon.  Lots of guys ice fishing on the south side of the cross dike, and a couple guys jiggin' the channel on the east side of sugar.  We didn't catch a thing just nice to chop through some ice

Mar 12 - Greg Warsow
I went by Lake Erie Metro Park today and there were about 7 boat trailers in the parking lot.  Somebody's fishing!  Any reports on fish and ice in the river?

Feb 2 - Jim Barta Hey guys (and gals), I realize that this is strictly for fishing reports, but I didn't know how else to speak to my DWF family. Please forgive me this once. It sure isn't the same living here in Alabama. No perch and, worse of all NO WALLEYES! I certainly miss everyone at DWF and the good times we had. It just doesn't seem right not getting out on the river to jig up those big 'Eyes. I hope everyone stays safe this year and enjoys a great season of fishing. God bless to all!

Jan 8 - John Sparkman  Monday got 86 by Humbug behind breakwall many jumbos some 12-13 incher's

Jan 4  - Mike Zielinski  Visited Ballenger Park in River Rouge Tues., about 8 guys were there and catching decent perch on a regular basis using emerald shiners in about 3-4 feet of water. North end seemed to have best results, saw several guys with 15 to 25 perch. Said they had been fishing about 2 hrs. A few were jumbos ( over 10 in.)but most were around 8 in. One angler said it had been pretty good since last of Nov. and if the run remains the same as last year it should continue into early spring. Better than sitting on the couch.
