For the last several years, DWF has acted as "host" for the MWC (Masters Walleye Circuit) tournament held here.  For our work in staffing the event, we are given a grant from the Wildlife Forever/MWC Conservation Fund to be used for local conservation efforts. This year, we were awarded over $1,200 which will be given to the Downriver "Stream Team", a group of high school students started by a couple of Southgate Anderson High School teachers ( Mr. John Nasarzewski and Mr. Bruce Szczechowski ) and their students and has grown to a collaborative group of Downriver high schools that collaborate on student-led projects

After the weigh-in on Saturday, A Kid's Fishing "clinic" was held for about 40 kids in attendance.  Several of the tournament Pro's stuck around and  worked with the kids showing them how to tie knots, etc.  All of the kids were given a rod and reel along with a "goodie" bag and a drawing was held for a "Fishing Machine.

The "Fishing Machine" was an awesome Mountain bike fully equipped with  rod holders (with rods) and a tackle box mounted on it!
